Another Rovinj venue of Pellizzer dinasty. While their Puntulina fancy, romantic and relatively young, Giannino is a classic. Opening the first seafood restaurant in Rovinj 1972. Corrado Pellizer starting a new era. Pellizer was the first to present local traditional fish dishes in a commercial manner suitable for sprouting tourism industry. He knew his way with pasta and rice from day one. Pellizer’s spaghetti and rigatoni used to come with fragrant salsa and he was first to add fresh basil, dry oregano and other herbs in his dishes. He made first pastas with cured anchovies, black olives, capers, mushrooms, first mare-monti pastas, first marinaras, pescatores, spaghetti alla puttanesca… Pellizer’s sons are still building on that tradition. Recently, restaurant went through ambitious redesign, but the kitchen still turns out traditional dishes, with a modern touch. The problem with Giannino is inconsistency.  You can have a perfect four course fish dinner one night, but there’s no guarantee you will get the same quality on your next visit. Something a seriously managed restaurant cannot afford.
