Il Secondo is the only decent restaurant in new Zagreb — an area where several hundred thousand people live. Il Secondo is a conventional mainstream Italian restaurant with a dozen classic pasta dishes and three or four somewhat less-classical risotto dishes (see the risotto with porcini mushrooms and duck breast). They serve plenty of carpaccio, Italian prosciutto and salami, but also with something more original on the daily specials which goes outside the framework of Italian cuisine for tourists. Prices on the main menu are quite fair and among the lowest in Zagreb. A bottle of champagne costs around 500 kuna while you can get a good bottle of red wine for 200 kuna. The terrace faces an ugly main street through new Zagreb with plenty of traffic, but it has been put together exceptionally well.
