Zinfandel is the main restaurant of the Esplanade — the best hotel in Zagreb and Croatia. They cook modern and conventional food, with a lot of panache, deconstructed presentations, and edible flowers. The problem with Zinfandel’s is that for local guests, this approach was novelty seven years ago, not to mention foreign diners. On the other hand, chef Ana Grgić has enough talent to bring out impressive flavours, and her cooking is very precise. Zinfandel’s seasonal menus features some great classics, they make the best beef tartare in the country. Desserts are good occasionally, but the wine list is too small and in desperade need of a revamp, since it their wine list is unusually poor and in desperate need of a revamp if it is to live up to the reputation of the restaurant and the hotel. Zinfandel’s main room is quite spectacular with its Art Nouveau elements, and the Oleander terrace is one of the most beautiful in Zagreb. Their service was unrivaled until a few years ago, but it has slipped below the standard, even below the standard of food.
