Giorgio Clai is the most peculiar Istrian winemaker. He often declares his wines to be the best in Croatia and in Europe, and there is a small but loyal sect of followers occasionally ready to believe him. Clai wines are natural, macerated, cloudy and extremely personal. Brombonero Refošk is a cult Croatian red wine, while Malvazija Sveti Jakov and white Ottocento Cuvee are among the best wines from Istria. Clai’s production is rather small.
