Ivica Matošević started the Istrian wine renaissance. In late 90′ and in the first half of following decade, he was the ideologist, a spokesperson and organiser of all of the Istrian wine events that could be organised and he led Vinistra for years. Best Matošević wine is without doubt Malvazija Antiqua, on the wine list at Blumenthal’s Fat Duck for years. It is produced in micro-quantities of about 2000 bottles. Grimalda Red and Grimalda White, named after the eponymous vineyard above Pazin, are excellent and broadly available wines, while Sauvignon is quite promising.
