Piquentum is an unusual wine project run by Dimitri Brečević, an oenologist trained in France. Piquentum winery served as a bomb shelter in early 90’s but this is not the only interesting thing about it. Brečević makes wines that don’t fit the clean-and-fresh paradigm of Istrian wine industry majority. His wines are rather complex, expressive and sometimes very successful. In weaker vintages, however, Piquentum wines they tend to stay at the level of unrealised ambition, but are definitely worth trying.
